Today we Inspected and accepted the most recent planting contract
which consists of all the planters on the ecademle podium, the State Quad»
rangle, and the areas allied to Academic Group Ii bulldings. With the
exception of a very few Incomplete Items, we have found thls contract to be
completed In excellent shape. Accordingly, we accaptad the Job subject to
a small! punch fist and the guarantee perlod commences as of today.
This planting contract, unlike our first ones, contalns a two~
year maintenance and guarantee clause which requires the contractor to
maintain and replace, where necessary, all of the planting for a two-year
perfod, at his expense, and to turn the Job over to us In ean established,
living condition with healthy plants and shrubs at the end of the two-year
period, This foature ts a great boon to the Plant Diviston for a brief
spell, but advanced planning will requtre them to have personnel at the
end of this period, If wo are to maintain this shrubbery In satisfactory
condi tion,
A number of our previous planting contracts naver had thls proviso
or have already exceeded the two~year guarantees period, Thesa, of course,
are subject to the maintenance of the Plant Division and impose a heavy
burden on Mr. Buckhoff for proper matntenance. | know that he has bean
short handed on this task for at least two years, and | would support his
needs for an augmented grounds crew.
