SUBJECE: Campus Progress Report No. 63
Stage Vill Dormitory (ur second)
Information received from the builder hes stated that unite "E"
and "i" would be ready for occupancy four weeks after heat was introduced
into the building. Heat was introduced today and this would place occupan-
cy predicted for the 19th of November. However, physical inspection was
made of these units with Mr. Andvew Koonz of the Dormitory Authority today
and we noted that the interior rooms are now almost ali habiteble, lacking
only a few toilet fixtures which could be readily installed, and folding
doors for the wardrobes, - also readily installed. Other completion fea-
tures were minor, and could, in our estimation, be finished by Novenber 12.
Another problem is connecting unite "RY and “F" with the-slde~
walk to the stairs on the northwest corner of the podium. Progress on
thia has been very slow, the lateat hinérance being a flash carpenter's
strike on the part of the local union, in defience of the national’ organ-
ination. However, at the meeting today, and after being urged to etoplasize
(his past of the pregvomme, We ‘yur laden fetluoeted that it woud be eorhe
pleted within two more weeks. In view of this, I am advocating the move~
ment forward of the occupancy date from Novenber 19 to November 12, and,
succeeded in having Mr. Koonz and the architect accampany me on an in-'
spection tour one wel from today, to see if 1t eould nut be moved
forward.
‘In view of the above, it appears that in no case would we take
occupancy prior to November 12, the builder is now formally stating that
he will give occupancy on November 19, and we must not overlook the pos-
sibility that in his own mind he 1s not even serious about this date, and
occupancy WLLL not be achieved till still later. All parties have been
informed that we will need a minimum of two weeks notice to terminate
motel rentals and to make way for the movement of the students, It would
soem Likely however, that the movement might be anticipated sonetime
patween the 12th and Thanksgiving (November 25).
/ he Business Office should alert the telephone company to the
prospect of instalietion of telephones in time, during this period of
Noveriber 12 to November 2h.
