Structure for Accelerator Elevator

! attended a bid opentng this morning for the structure portion of the
accelerator elevator. This was the third tima that this structure has been bid,
the prior two times having produced prices that were considered too far above
the estimate and beyond allocated funds. Today's bidding was more successful,
resulting in a lowering of price by $2,000 under the low bidder of last month.
Bids ranged today from $24,800 to $32,000,

The D.0.A. Contractors of Mechantaville, New York were the low bidders
this time as well as the previous time. The combination of prices Indicated
below is within allesated funds, and a check with the Central Administration
shows thet contracts will new be placed for this works

Elevator Structure ~ $24,800.00
Elevetor Mechanism = boy 146 600
Total = $48,946.00

Delivery time of the elevator mechanism 1s nine (9) months from the
date of the placement of the order and this will be the controlfing time
factor, This would place dativery of the elevator about next September, by
which time construction work of the structure will have been completed and
will be made ready to receive the mechanism. Installation time for the mechan»
tam should be about one (1) month, so we should realize the completed projact
by about next October, barring any strikes or unforeseen delays, Now that we
are Into the winter season, If Is unlikely that the D,D.A. Contractors would
want to commence work until weather becomes more favorable.

if for any reason the Phystes Department would wish to delay It
until about next April, we oan probably Influence the Contractor to delay
the start of work until that time.
