MEMORANDUM

DATE: 6 February 1973

TO: Vice President John W. Hartley
Administration Building - Room 326

FROM: Mr. Walter M. Tisdale
Service Building "A" - Room 103

SUBJECT: Campus Progress Report No, 213
Site Work, Correct Sanitary Sewer
SUCF Project No. 01-381
OGS Project No. 25758

| attended the bid opening for the project at the Construction Fund.

. Three bidders responded with bids ranging from $49,500 to $86,077, the
highest bidder. August Bohl Inc., Albany, New York,: a firm that has done |
much work on our campus was the lowest bidder and the Construction Fund ,
has decided to award the contract to him. It should take about two weeks for
the award, and completion date for the job is scheduled for. | October 1973.

Basically the job calls for improvements to be made at two locations on
our South Sanitary Sewer line. .This line serves tne southern half of the
campus and has been subject to a couple of blockages during the past several
years. The blockages are aggravated by a buildup of fatty substances on the
inside of the pipe and occur mainly at sharp turns in the line which has a
very low gradient. This project will straighten out the sharp turns and
improve the gradient as much as possible. It will also Insert two grease traps
at strategic points to accumulate the fatty substances from kitchens and permit
removal without having them contaminate the sewer line. This latter feature Is
probably going to be the greatest advantage since it seems to be the primary
cause for blockage.

it is fortunate that the job will be done this summer while the campus
population is at its lowest ebb, as there wil! be some scheduling problems to
be worked out. However, we foresee no comp} ications preventing construction

being done rather quickly and with minimal interference.
