SUBJECT: Campus Progress Report No, 225
Reseal Athletic Track

The final acceptance inspection of the renovation job on the track
was conducted on 27 August 1973. The track was accepted subject to a small
punch list, which corrections will soon be made. The work was completed on
time and a highly satisfactory job was accomplished.

As a result of this work, which cost $7,520, we now are the proud owners
of one of the best tracks in the East. I+ has been roughly five years since
the original track was accepted, and we have used it to maximum capacity during
that period. One of the results has been the development of a very fine track
team that continues to win high honors for our university year after year. |
would hope that this record might be continued, and for this reason I+ behooves
us to treat the track with great care and maintain it wel! into the future. To
this end | would suggest an annual rolling of the track, such as was done during
this contract, each year after the track season is over but while the temperatures
are still high. This will tend to reseal the track before it goes Into the
winter freeze~thaw cycling.

Inquiries conducted by this office indicate that the Department of
Transportation has. suitable roflers which might be obtained to use for this job

provided advance arrangements are made through the proper channels. | would
strongly recommend that the Physical Education and Plant Departments pursue this
matter and give our track a good rolling each Fall. In this manner | believe
the life of the track will be extended far beyond the five year period and will

continue to be oné of the strong factors in A) winning track team.
