Included in this section are miscellaneous materials dealing with Selfhelp, the School of Social Welfare at the University of California, Berkeley, and the National Association of Social Workers (International and Golden Gate Chapter), as well as materials on topics covered in Friedländer's textbooks, such as juvenile delinquency, child labor, social security and aging.

These files contain primarily newspaper clippings on prominent individuals, as well as colleagues and friends.

Included in this series are several early book/pamphlet publications in the area of social welfare and especially youth welfare, as well as individual periodical issues on subjects of interest to Friedländer.

This section contains unidentified or miscellaneous letters, letters concerning his retirement from the University of California, Berkeley in 1959, and birthday congratulations, especially upon the occasions of his 75th, 85th and 93rd birthdays.

This sub-series contains correspondences with numerous relatives, including numerous members of the Friedländer, Bergmann, Haase and Lichtenstein families, most forced to flee Nazi Germany because of their Jewish heritage, eventually settling in the United States, England, Israel and Australia. Among the correspondence with friends included in this series, are lengthy correspondences spanning four or five decades with Irma and Erich Berndt, Paul and Käte Brün, Alfred and Charlotte Dresel, Leo and Anne Marie Grebler, Isa Gruner, Werner and Hanna Heider, Mario and Dorothee Iona, Paul and Regina Kägi, Robert M.W. and Benedicta Kempner, Robert and Herthi Liebknecht, Dyno and Mara Löwenstein, Adolf and Elisabeth Lüchinger, Hilde and Hardi Meisels, Hans and Käte Siegel.

Correspondence in this series centers around various topics or projects worked on by Friedländer. Included in this section are correspondences concerning the Eighth International Conference of Social Work in Munich, Germany, August 5-10, 1956, as well as his major textbook publications: Introduction to Social Welfare; Individualism & Social Welfare and Concepts and Methods of Social Work.

This sub-series has been further sub-divided into two further divisions, with sub-series 2a containing the largest volume of correspondence in the collection.

This sub-section, which is comprised of 348 folders contains approx. 14,953 items of correspondence, is the largest section in the correspondence. Of special note in this section is the lengthy correspondence (over 500 letters) between Friedländer and John Otto Reinemann, 1928-1975, which continues with his widow, Hertha, 1975-1984.
