The Fritz Machlup Papers contian a partial collection of his published writings as a professor of economics and international finance.

The collection documents the professional life of photographer and journalist Fritz Neugass. The Neugass Papers include published writings, typescripts, clippings, research materials, photographs by Neugass, photographs by others, correspondence, and auction catalogs.

This series contains typescripts by Neugass, photographs and clippings on various art auctions and reviews of art seasons from 1950-1979. The bulk of this series (148 file folders) consists of articles on (Sotheby) Parke-Bernet auctions. The articles have been arranged chronologically by date and Sale Number, which correspond to the Sotheby Parke-Bernet auction catalogs in Series 16 (Boxes 62-75).

Neugass? correspondence files contain a small amount of correspondence with German friends (1941-1948). Most of the correspondence dates from the 1950s-1979 and includes correspondence with publishers and artists such as Jimmy Ernst, Joachim Berthold, Buell Mullen, and Bernard & Ursula Schultze.

The research laboratory at General Electric was the launching pad for some of Vincent Schaefer's most pivotal scientific work. This series contains research notes, photographs, reports (published and unpublished, internal and external), and correspondence relating to all of his more famous experiments as well as a range of lesser-known work accomplished during his years at the G.E. Research Laboratory in Schenectady. The materials cover topics such as smoke/artificial fog generation, surface chemistry, studies of ice and snow particles, and early cloud seeding. The series is divided according to areas of specific interest to Schaefer as well as correspondence and publications.

The Vincent J. Schaefer Papers represent the professional accomplishments and personal interests of the scientist who discovered cloud seeding. Schaefer spent more than 20 years with General Electric in Schenectady, New York, working his way up from apprentice, to research assistant, to research associate. In those years he was mentored by Irving Langmuir, Nobel Prize winner in chemistry. The work Schaefer did at General Electric laid the foundation for further success as he became director of research for the Munitalp Foundation, began a highly successful summer science program for high school students, acted as an independent consultant, and founded the Atmospheric Sciences Research Center at the State University of New York at Albany. This collection contains research data, notes, correspondence, publications, and photographs that showcase Schaefer's long, industrious scientific career as well as highlighting his many hobbies in local history and environmentalism.

The formation and behavior of snow and ice crystals were a lifelong interest of Schaefer's, and in his time at General Electric he was able to focus on the subject during the World War II years as ice related to the safety of U.S. Air Force planes. Schaefer and Irving Langmuir's interest in that topic grew as a result of their World War II-era contract work with the military, and the experiments they conducted after the war's end led directly to their Project Cirrus contract in 1947—an undertaking so extensive that their work in that area merited its own series in this collection. Much of their foundational work in snow and ice composition and behavior was grounded in observations and experiments conducted on Mount Washington in New Hampshire. Schaefer discovered during this time that ice crystals and snowflakes could be captured and observed using Formvar plastic. Using this method, he documented very specific data about ice and snow before creating some of the first replicas of specific snowflake shapes. The work of Schaefer and his colleagues regarding ice research includes handwritten notes, drawings, charts, photographs, reports, and correspondence specific to ice, snow, and Mount Washington.

The Guy Gabrielson Papers contain materials that document the political career of Guy George Gabrielson from his start in New Jersey state politics through his years as Chairman of the Republican National Committee. Many of the materials document the 1952 U.S. Presidential election and Republican National Committee Convention which Gabrielson presided over as chairman.

The bulk of this series is a by-product of the exhaustive planning for the 1952 Republican National Convention that nominated General Dwight D. Eisenhower for president. It includes committee reports, correspondence with local businesses, candidate information, the official convention program and campaign materials. Topics include finance, hotels/housing, chaplains, doorkeepers and preparatory actions by various state committees.

The Hans Natonek Papers contain drafts of his novels, short stories and poems, and correspondence with family and publishers. The bulk of the literary works in this collection, though undated, stem from the period after Natonek fled to the United States, mainly after he moved to Arizona in 1943.

The Hans Speier Papers primarily focus on Speier's career in the U.S. after his emigration. The collection includes biographical materials, including family documents and correspondence; autobiographical writings, manuscripts and typescripts; The RAND Corporation materials; typescripts by other authors, Nazi propaganda; anti-Nazi propaganda; Allied Forces Intelligence reports and memoranda; notes and materials on various topics; and political pamphlets.

The correspondence files are arranged in four series, general correspondence with individuals A-Z; correspondence with publishers, newspaper editors, etc.; correspondence relating to the publication of the three volume series Communication and Propaganda in World History, and correspondence relating to the 1975 Thyssen Workshop "Probleme der Regierbarkeit".

This series is divided into two sub-series: 1) typescripts of books written or edited by Speier; and 2) typescripts and manuscripts of shorter writings, including early stories and poems, and essayistic writings.

Staudinger was a Social Democratic Party member of the Reichstag until his removal by the Nazis in 1933; he was professor of economics at the University in Exile from 1934 and dean of the graduate faculty of the New School for Social Research at various times between 1941 and 1960. The collection contains articles, books, diplomas, passports, photographs, scrapbooks, Festscrifen, and memorabilia of Hans Staudinger and members of his family. It also contains correspondence; handwritten and typed drafts of lecture notes, speeches, and addresses; teaching and research materials; and publications by Hans Staudinger and members of the New School for Social Research. The concentration of material is in the period of 1940 through 1960, with early biographical material dating from 1907 and some items dating through 1980.

Personal and professional correspondence.

The collection contains Pachter's writings in history, economics, current events, the social sciences and other topics. The bulk of the collection consists of Pachter's published essayistic writings, both for journals (including numerous articles for Dissent) and for newspapers.

This series contains copies of the essayistic writings of Pachter published in journals or as sections in books. Most are in published form, with a few accompanied by typescript versions. Also included in this section are Pachter's book and film reviews.

This series, the largest series in the collection, has been kept in its original order, as received from Pachter's estate. His contributions to German and American newspapers are arranged in folders by topic. In many cases, only a copy of the published article is present in the folder, however typescripts of some articles are also included in the folders. This series, which contains over 7,000 items, demonstrates not only the prolific nature of Pachter's journalistic career, but also the vast range of topics he addressed in his writings.

Union founded at General Electric's Schenectady, NY plant after the passage of the Wagner Act.

Series 3 contains correspondence, memos, pamphlets, receipts, and related materials concerning the union, GE, and community issues. The series contains material related to the financial organization of the union and to the strikes of the 1940s, 1960s, and 1980s as well. All strike materials are located in this series with some exceptions. News clippings appear in this series, while full newspapers of are found in Series 5.

Series 5 is composed of publications of Local 301 including IUE-CIO News and IUE-CIO Local 301 News. The newspaper is the only consistent source for information prior to the 1960s and provides background for any history of Local 301. In these newspapers, Local 301 describes its viewpoints on negotiations with management and on other topics of interest to the union and its membership. The first issues of the newspaper are actually issues of the Electrical Workers News, the UE Local 301 newspaper. These issues date from Local 301s initial decision to join the IUE when their admission to the national union had not yet been made official. The collection includes paper, microfilm, and PDF file versions of newspapers. The PDF files are available online and were created from the microfilm copies of Local 301 publications. As there may have been gaps in the publication holdings when the microfilm was created, researchers are encouraged to also check the paper version when a PDF file is not available for individual volumes. The digitization of the Local 301 publications was funded by long-time Local 301 member Helen Quirini. This series also contains strike newspapers from 1954-1971 and 1969- 1979 and recent copies of the IUE/CWA Newsletter.
