President Hitchcock Launched $100 Million Life Sciences Research Initiative

President Hitchcock launched a $100 million Life Sciences Research Initiative to "build world-class strength in University research capabilities in the life sciences" led by the University's new $78 million Life Sciences Research building which is under construction. As part of the initiative, $65 million was pledged by New York State, $5 million was expected from research grants, $20 million from private gifts of which $8 million will be spent on the new building and $12 million to recruit world class researchers. Additional funds were expected to come from other federal funding along with University support. The Life Sciences Building will house researchers from psychology, biology and chemistry. At the launching, Constance and Thomas D'Ambra pledged $1 million to jump start the new initiative.
