Moving Up Day Ceremonies First Mentioned

1912 May

Moving-Up Day ceremonies first mentioned in The Echo. The entry indicates that the ceremony may have predated this year, but that it was now a "permanently established" event which included speeches, the classes wearing armbands, and the Seniors relinquishing their accustomed seats to the Juniors, and so on down to first year students. The 1913 Moving-Up Day was described as "one of the biggest college events of the second semester." The Echo again noted arm bands, Seniors in cap and gown, speeches, and a post-event "frolic" on the lawn of the College by the students.
