State College News Commences Publication
1916 October 4
State College News commences publication, the first true student newspaper, renamed the Albany Student Press (ASP) in 1964. The State College News, a weekly, replaced The Echo, a monthly, as the student newspaper. As the size of the school increased, students believed that it was necessary to have a weekly newspaper to better communicate the many student activities and happenings. The Echo continued publication as the school literary magazine and organ for alumni news.
