Consortium On Africa Held Its First Meeting

2003 November

The Consortium on Africa was founded by Distinguished Service Professor Emerita Shirley J. Jones with a grant from the UAlbany Affirmative Action Committee. Its initial goals were to: "identify faculty recruiting African students and/or directing programs and activities in Africa; increase the number of African students and scholars at UAlbany; promote student faculty links, and exchange programs; help to eradicate negative media portrayals of Africa; spotlight UAlbany courses that address African issues and policies; and establish collaborative partnerships undertaking research and publication, seeking funding, and advocate for effective change and development in international education with a focus on Africa."
