Myskania Created, Student Governance Began

1917 April 12

Members of the first student council (which was named Myskania within the next month) were appointed by a faculty committee from among the seniors and student governance begins. Myskania was responsible for creating and enforcing student traditions. It lasts as a judicial body until 1979. Beginning at Moving-Up Day ceremonies in 1917, the outgoing seniors of Myskania tap next year's Myskania members.
