Milne Hall, Page Hall, And Richardson Hall Opened
1929
Milne Hall, Page Hall, and Richardson Hall were opened between February and June on what is now the Downtown Campus. Milne Hall was named after William A. Milne, President of the New York State Normal College. The Milne High School quickly occupied the building. Page Hall was named for the New York State Normal School's first principal, David Page. Richardson Hall was named for Professor Richardson, who taught ancient languages. The name "Richardson Hall" replaced the Trustee approved name "Richards Hall," honoring Ellen H. Richards, when the decision was made to drop home economics from the curriculum. This was done at the suggestion of the State College News, but French states the board never took an official action to change the name.
