First Fountain Day Celebration Begun As Part Of Mayfest

1978 May 5

First Fountain Day celebration begun as part of Mayfest. Originally took place on Human Awareness Potential Day (HAP Day). Fred Brewington, ’79, and Peter Galasso, ‘78, respectively Vice President and President of the Student Association are generally credited as the originators of the idea for Human Awareness Potential Day, and by implication the turning on of the campus fountains as a major event. More recent information suggests that Philip Mussman '78, and a group of his friends in a club that played fight songs at football games, originated the idea for Fountain Day as a major student event.
