Alumni Quadrangle, a complex of dormitories, is named for the Alumni Association, which
purchased most of the land on which the dormitories stand, and
funded the construction of the first two dormitories, Pierce and
Sayles Halls, opened in 1935 and 1941. The Alumni Association's
successful construction of these two dormitories and the
retirement of the debt associated with them, is credited with
providing a model for the creation of the New York State
Dormitory Authority. The last three dormitories constructed on
the Quadrangle, Brubacher, Alden and Waterbury Halls, opened in
1951, 1958, and 1959, were built by the Dormitory
Authority.
