THE NEWSLETTER OF THE NEW YORK STATE SOCIETY FOR CLINICAL SOCIAL WORK

About NYSSCSW

T

he New York State Society for Clinical Social Work, or NYSSCSW, is an association of private clinical social work professionals who advocate for the interests of clinical social work and high quality care. Since its formation in 1968, the NYSSCSW has garnered a series of legislative victories for insurance reimbursement, two-tier licensing, and higher minimum competency requirements. Their lobbying legitimized social work as an mental health profession.

In 2006, Marsha Wineburgh, DSW, LCSW-R, began a transfer of materials to the University Libraries, M.E. Grenander Department of Special Collections and Archives. The resulting collection is known as the New York State Society for Clinical Social Work Records. This exhibit highlights selections of a publication included in the collection’s offerings in connection to their advocacy.

About The Clinician

The Clinician is the official newsletter of the NYSSCSW. Its original title was the CSSW Newsletter, then briefly the CSSWP Newsletter before being renamed The Clinician in Summer 1995. Regardless of name, the newsletter has remained a brief but thorough survey of issues and current events impacting clinical social workers.

The New York State Society for Clinical Social Work Records includes print (as well as some online) issues of The Clinician dating back to 1974.
