- Abstract:
- A wrecked trading boat washed up on shore. From it, Tarzan salvaged a flashlight for Boy, some beads for Boy's friend Dombie, and silken parachutes for himself. He had the boys stitch strips of the parachutes together, then seal the seams with sticky rubber sap and explained that he would fill the balloon with hot volcanic gas so it would float away. As they were nearing completion, Muviro, a tribesman approached to discuss a problem with Tarzan. Boy and Dombie decided to fill the balloon so it would be ready when Tarzan returned. Soon it was done. Securing the tether rope, Boy climbed into the basket, while Dombie busied himself elsewhere. Two curious baboons investigated the tether rope and the balloon started to lift off. Dombie grabbed the tether to stop its ascent, but the balloon carried him off, too. Tarzan spotted the balloon aloft and raced for the airport. Much later, the balloon began to sink. The boys peeked over the rim of the basket and spotted a dinosaur looking back at them.
