[James G. Gregory (NY), 186-?], library copy lacks title page, frontispiece and other plate; electrotyped and printed by' C.A. Alvord' with illustrations engraved by 'N. Orr'; the author is Matilda Betham-Edwards (1836-1919); the text with different illustrator (Macquoid), and engraver (Edmund Evans) was first published in London by Sampson Low, Son & Co. in 1861 and (with same format, illustrator and engraver) by Gregory [perhaps pirated] in 1861; this copy seems to be a slightly later edition [Gregory was only in business from 1861-1864], reset with variant illustrations, although the binding design seems to be the same as the British original; front cover titles, vignette and central design stamped in gold on pebbled rose-colored cloth, front and back cover decorated borders blind stamped
