James Miller (NY) imprint, n.d., inscribed 1880, 98p [12p]; first 25 pp contain The Three Wishes by Mary Botham Howitt [a poem published in 1854 in Merry's Museum] and several of her stories from the 1850's although it is not clear whether any of the rest are by her; all but the frontispiece and the first two full page illustrations are colored versions of Morin's black and white plates illustrating her 'Harry and Jack' and 'Little Arthur's Letters to His Sister Mary' published by Tilton (Boston) 1859 [see YH h863 j33 1859]; many of the stories [not the original Howitt texts] appear to be made up to go with individual illustrations; at the end of the stories are 12 unnumbered pp of illustrated nursery rhymes from another source; front cover and spine stamped in gold and black on blue cloth with color illustration pasted on front as vignette, back cover design blind stamped
