This series contains records generated by the Social Justice Center in the process of its ongoing mission to provide space and services to social justice organizations. The records include financial reports, correspondence, and meeting minutes from the Coordinating Committee and later the centers board. Also included are documents related to fundraising, including dance and walk-a-thons, grant proposals, and related materials. The records of the Centro de Progresso, the only member group of the SJC with material in this collection, can be found in this series. Finally, there is a small amount of material in Electronic File format from the planning of a workshop of the Dismantling Racism project.

This series is comprised of records generated by the store Peace Offerings in its day-to-day operations as a gift shop. This includes log sheets, inventories, time sheets, and meeting minutes of the steering committee. In addition, this series contains promotional materials from the store and from vendors, such as signs, press releases, fliers, and educational videos. This series also contains materials from the Cultural Marketplace Tour, where artisans from Mexico, Bolivia, and Ecuador visited the store. There is also a small amount of electronic records in this series, split between administrative material and conference material for the Dismantling Racism Project.

The Subject Files series contains mostly publications collected by the Social Justice Center and Peace Offerings from other organizations, such as newsletters and educational materials. Much of the material originates from the SELFHELP Crafts organization, which later became Ten Thousand Villages. Also included are research materials on the issues related to PCBs, environmental clean-up, and environmental justice.

Solidarity Committee of The Capital District Records, 1978-2024

The Greyhound Strikers Solidarity Committee of the Capital District was created by Albany-area labor union activists in support of the autumn 1983 Amalgamated Transit Union strike against Greyhound Bus Lines. After the strike, the group was reconstituted as the Solidarity Committee of the Capital District (SCCD) and worked to support hundreds of strikes and labor activities in Eastern New York, across the country, and in Latin America.

This series contains photocopies of meeting agendas and minutes and routine administrative records of the Solidarity Commitee of the Capital District. The minutes document the circumstances leading to the formation of the SCCD, its mission, and many of its subsequent activities. Some sets of minutes are highly detailed, but others consist of brief handwritten notes made on the margins of meeting agendas. Minutes of the SCCD's predecessor organization, the Greyhound Strikers Solidarity Committee of the Capital District, are housed in the Greyhound Lines Strike folder in the Subject Files series.

This subseries consists of photocopies of newspaper and magazine clippings, legal documents, union publications, and other materials pertaining to issues and campaigns in which the SCCD was interested in and/or involved with. Some files document the SCCD's opposition to apartheid, human-rights abuses, and corporate farming. Others detail its support for labor disputes involving a host of unions including: Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union, Amalgamated Transit Union, American Federation of Grain Millers, Aluminum, Brick, and Glass Workers International Union, Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees, Civil Service Employee Association, Communications Workers of America, International Association of Bridge, Structural, and Ornamental Ironworkers, International Association of Machinists, International Federation of Flight Attendants, International Leather Goods, Plastic, and Novelty Workers Union, International Longshoremen's Association, Laundry and Dry Cleaners International Union, National Association of Broadcast Engineers and Technicians, Oil, Chemical, and Atomic Workers Unions, Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization, Service Employees International Union, United Auto Workers, United Farm Workers, United Food and Commercial Workers, United Mine Workers of America, United Paperworkers International Union, and United Steelworkers of America. Of particular note are copies of personal correspondence between actor and labor activist Ed Asner and SCCD chairman John Funicello.

The Administration series includes material related to the founding and growth of BWOW. There are copies of the organization's by-laws and incorporation papers. There are notes and outlines for BWOW presentations and speaking engagements. There is correspondence between members of BWOW and government officials including the Town Board, the Town Supervisor, the Town Attorneys, the State of New York Department of Environmental Conservation, the State Assembly, and the Rensselaer County Legislature. Meeting minutes are separated between the typed minutes from a few of the meetings in 1990 and 1991 and the handwritten notes kept in two spiral bound notebooks from 1990 to 1995. BWOW's newsletter was first issued in November of 1990 with issue #1. In January of 1991, a second newsletter labeled Volume 1, #1 was printed with the title Words on Waste.Words on Waste was published three or four times a year from 1991 through 1995. There are a few issues missing in the collection. The Miscellaneous folder contains three printouts. Two of these printouts include correspondence, news releases, meeting agendas, and notes. Some of the items may be copies of items found in this or the following series. The third printout is a listing of documents that were created by BWOW and an annotated bibliography of publications regarding environmental issues such as recycling, incineration, and waste reduction.

BWOW was involved with three major opposition campaigns to waste management facilities. Each one is arranged as a sub-series. Sub-series one is American Ref-Fuel/BFI's proposal in 1989 to build an incinerator on Cabbage Island in Bethlehem. Sub-series two is the proposal by Albany New York Solid Waste Energy Recovering System (ANSWERS) in 1991 to create a landfill in the town of Bethlehem or Coeymans. BWOW worked with environmental organizations in the town of Coeymans to prevent its development in either area. Sub-series three is the Energy Answers Corporation (EAC) proposed building of a waste management facility that included an incinerator on Cabbage Island or Green Island. On June 18, 1992 a referendum vote was held in Bethlehem and rejected EAC's proposal and banned the building of incinerators in Bethlehem.

This series contains various BWOW files that are not specifically related to any waste management facility or the group's administration. The files include copies of Bethlehem's town codes and laws regarding waste management, BWOW's Solid Waste Management plan, numerous lesson plans for teachers in grades K-12 from government and environmental agencies and one specifically created for the Bethlehem Central School District by Students Reduce Our Trash (Students R.O.T) who were mentored by BWOW, Bethlehem's Town Board Meeting minutes, random flyers and news releases announcing events and meetings, information for various topics such as incineration, composting, and recycling, testimonies given by BWOW and its members, and files for special events such as paint recycling. The series also includes news clippings regarding BWOW's work and environmental concerns, the majority of clippings come from the local newspaper, The Spotlight.

Saratoga Springs Open Space Project Records, 1970-2003

The Saratoga Springs Open Space Project worked for the preservation of open space in Saratoga Springs. It supported the creation of nature trails, scenic walkways, and biking paths as well as vigorously opposed sprawl and loss of open space by organizing opposition to unsustainable development. In addition, the organization coordinated several programs aimed at aiding the development of Saratoga Springs and maintained a special interest in the development of the downtown area. The collection includes administrative files, grant files, material related to programs and issues, documentation of trails, and subject files.

This series consists of meeting minutes, agendas and notes as well as publications, articles, news clippings, and memoranda all directly pertaining to the operation of the Saratoga Springs Open Space Project (OSP). The publications include issues of Common Ground, the OSP newsletter, from 1992-1997, with scattered issues thereafter until 2001. Also included are meeting minutes and agendas from 1993-1999.

The documents in this series relate to the OSP's attempts to obtain grant funding. It contains grant applications, requests for proposals, correspondence and publications. Grants were sought from organizations such as the Land Trust Alliance, Open Space Institute, and the New York State Council on the Arts. Government funding for trail building was applied for under the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA.) Applications submitted to the same organization are divided by the application year.

This series is a subject file of materials related to the activities and interests of the OSP. Particularly well represented are some of the conflicts over proposed development, such as the building of a truck bypass and the High Rock golf course in Saratoga Spa State Park. Also included are materials from The Next Steps & Beyond forum and the mini-mall committee, which dealt with ways to develop the downtown Saratoga Springs area. Other issues include the move of the Saratoga Farmer's Market to High Rock Spring Park, the construction of the Saratoga National Golf Club and the Vote Yes! organization, a side project advocating the passage of a 2002 bond referendum to pay for the 2001 Environmental Parks and Open Area Protection Program. Extensive news clipping files are filed separately at the end of the series.

This series consists of records generated by Campus Action directly pertaining to its administrative functions, either on paper or stored on the hard drive of the main computer. Included are meeting agendas, minutes, memoranda, and organizational records such as by-laws and procedures. In addition, the series includes materials related to several fundraising methods explored by Campus Action, from holding dances to applying for grants. This series contains some correspondence, but this largely consists of mailings to members and related organizations rather than internal correspondence.

This series includes the variety of publications generated by Campus Action. These include the major publications of Campus Action, such as theCampus Action News newsletter, the Activist Directory, and the Alternative Internship Directory. In some cases these publications consist of the original master copies created for photocopying. When a final version of a publication was available, it was retained instead of these master copies. This series also includes numerous fliers, individual subject guides, conference materials, leaflets, and other handouts intended for campus distribution.

These events are primarily conferences, including the biannual conference held by Campus Action as well as other conferences in which Campus Action participated. Paper materials usually include some form of sign-in sheet, notes, schedules, correspondence, fliers, leaflets, and other handouts. Electronic documents include more of the same, along with lists of all attendees.

Willowbrook Review Panel Records, 1968-1981, bulk 1975-1981

The Willowbrook Review Panel was a Federal monitoring group established by the U.S. District Court in 1975 and dismissed from its duties in 1987. The Willowbrook Review Panel Records provide extensive documentation of the Panel's main function: monitoring implementation of the 1975 Willowbrook Consent Decree in New York State which set new standards for the care of the facility's residents.

The series consists of by-laws, correspondence, meeting materials, budget data, resumes, staff reports, vouchers and other expense information, executive director records, and other operational records of the Willowbrook Review Panel. There is also information about consultants to the WRP, and about other developmental centers. Correspondence issued by the WRP, meeting packets, and mailings constitute the largest sections of the series. The series is restricted because it contains information about specific named residents of Willowbrook and other state developmental centers, particularly in the folders marked "Mailings". The materials are arranged alphabetically in both letter-size and legal-size format.

This series consists of McLaren's administrative papers. It is predominantly composed of memorandums and correspondences documenting his involvement with a large number of different committees throughout his tenure at the University Albany. Most notable in size are the applications for the Husted Award, an annual award granted to the most outstanding undergraduate senior in science, which he was involved with from 1977 until his retirement in 1989. This series also contains his general papers, some teaching materials, and several booklets on the history of the University at Albany's Uptown Campus.

This series consists of McLaren's research papers. Most prominent is his work on strong acid formation in fog, research conducted from 1983 to 1986. Also included are notes from various conferences he attended, Atmospheric Sciences Research Center publications, papers regarding research trips to Yellowstone National Park along with Whiteface Mountain and Europe, and his involvement with Project Cirrus, a weather modification program conducted by General Electric in conjunction with the United States military.
