Records that document the history of the University at Albany, SUNY and its predecessor schools.
The University Archives documents the history of the University at Albany, SUNY from its origin in 1844 as the New York State Normal School to train teachers for New York State to its present status as a comprehensive research university. The department collects, manages, and provides access to permanent university records for research use. This includes the administrative records of the university, student groups, faculty, alumni, and affiliated organizations. Collecting and preserving university records documents our history and promotes transparency and accountability.

The organization for agendas and minutes is different from 2003 to 2006 because the material came to archives in its original order. In these files, there is supplemental material along with administrative records. There are also multiple agendas for some months because President Ben-Ami Lipetz took notes on his agenda copies (any of these will make note of it in the upper right hand corner).

Series 1 is comprised almost entirely of photographs taken by the University Photo Service, a separate student organization that has supplied much of the ASP 's photography over the years. However, some photographs may have been taken by ASP staff. Additionally, a small number of images originate from other sources, including the Associated Press, College Press Service, and Liberation News Service. A single illustration, noted in the container list below, is also included. While many of these images appeared in issues of the ASP , others may never have been published.

Also included is correspondence pertaining to Woodcock's study of Hawaiian rainfall, 1967-1972; atmospheric studies at the volcano Mauna Kea, 1965-1977; permafrost at Mauna Kea, 1969-1977; "mountain breathing" at Mauna Kea, 1976-1979; and Lake Waiau, 1965-1985.
