This collection contains a late-nineteenth-century Hebrew manuscript commentary on the Book of Psalms, including an explanation of the Mogen David symbol.

Includes correspondence, 1955-1989; course syllabi and lecture notes, 1951-1979; offprints, 1957-1981; and a diary of a sabbatical leave, 1954-1955. Grenander was a professor of English at the New York State College for Teachers and the University at Albany from 1948 to 1989. Grenander was a scholar of the American writer Ambrose Bierce and corresponded with John Crowe Ransom about New Criticism and other literary topics.

Michael Meltsner is a prominent lawyer and civil rights activist. Meltsner is also an opponent of the death penalty. The collection contains assorted capital punishment materials including clippings, journal articles, correspondence and files used in writing the death penalty chapters of Michael Meltsner's book, The Making of a Civil Rights Lawyer.

David Mennillo was a longtime employee of General Electric in Schenectady, New York. The collection includes material related to Mennillo's career such as training materials and his resume.

A statewide network of community based Mental Health Associations focused on public education and citizen advocacy.

The State Charities Aid Association subseries includes documents related to the activities of the SCAA in the field of mental health. It includes legal documents, reports, minutes, memos, letters, and pamphlets generated by various committees of the SCAA, reprints of articles by people belonging to or associated with the SCAA, and some state government documents and other external documents related to the work of the SCAA. Also included are reports of the Committee on Legislation, which was a special committee on legislation for the insane (1891-1895) and a letter to the mayor of New York City advocating bringing New York County into the state mental health system. The Subcommittee on After Care worked to improve the care offered to mental patients after discharge from mental institutions. Included are the subcommittee's by-laws, minutes, and one annual report. The Committee on Mental Hygiene was the principal committee of SCAA dealing with mental health issues. The records include reports of the assistant secretary, mission statement (labeled as "objects") minutes, proposal for the study of the prevalence of mental disease in New York State, training programs, memos, reports, and an excerpt from a history of mental health policies in New York. The Visiting Committees were members of the SCAA who were empowered by New York State to inspect mental institutions on behalf of the state government and report to the state's Department of Mental Hygiene on the conditions in the institutions and the quality and effectiveness of the care being offered to the mentally ill.

George R. Metcalf was born in Auburn, NY on February 5, 1914. Metcalf was a newspaper publisher and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a Republican member of the New York State Senate fro, 1951-1965. Metcalf served the 47th District from 1951-1954, and then the 48th District from 1955 to 1965. Metcalf was also a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Freemasons, Eagles, Elks, and Lions. He died in Auburn Memorial Hospital on May 30, 2002. This collection contains records relating to Metcalf's time in the New York State Senate.

He served in Congress for 10 terms and was a member of the House Ways & Means Committee, where he was chairman of the Subcommittee on Social Security. He chose not to run for reelection in 2008.
