Records that document the history of the University at Albany, SUNY and its predecessor schools.
The University Archives documents the history of the University at Albany, SUNY from its origin in 1844 as the New York State Normal School to train teachers for New York State to its present status as a comprehensive research university. The department collects, manages, and provides access to permanent university records for research use. This includes the administrative records of the university, student groups, faculty, alumni, and affiliated organizations. Collecting and preserving university records documents our history and promotes transparency and accountability.

This series consists of bank reconciliation statements, cash books, checking account registers, dues registers, and ledgers. The cash books (1950-1959) and registers (1927-1938, 1958-1962, 1974-1977, 1979-1980, and 1987-1991) record Psi Gamma income and expenditures. Checking account registers (1958-1964) and bank reconciliation statements (1959-1960) document Psi Gamma bank account activity, and dues registers (1979-1980) record which sisters have and have not paid their dues.

This is an alphabetical letter series of the General Reference collection. The General Reference Collection was created by archivists to hold information on campus history that is not part of any organic record group. The collection contains material from a variety of outside sources, excepts from newspapers and other publications, press releases and promotional materials, and loose university records.

The Student Association gained the permission of the Administration to publish surveys of courses and teachers which are available to the students so that they could make more informed decisions in choosing their courses. The collection is incomplete, and while the faculty evaluations from the 1970's appear to be comprehensive, those from the 1980's and 1990's only publish ratings of a few courses where the faculty has given permission to publish.

This series is divided into two subseries, one containing curricula of workshops and the other information about registrants. Please note that Series 2 of this collection also includes a general administrative file on continuing education and one on tranferring the continuing education program to Russell Sage College in 1979 upon closure of the School of Nursing.

Day Files, 1974-1986 1.0 cubic ft.

This series holds daily office papers filed by Gloria DeSole and Rosemary Kilkenny Sabai who were directors of the Affirmative Action Office during this period. It includes office memos, correspondence within the University and without, and meeting minutes. These all hold information on office work such as the workforce analysis of the campus, hiring waiver requests, and dealings with Section 504 and Title IX.

This series consists of correspondence, minutes, newsletters, constitutions, membership lists, and video cassettes. The annual and executive board meeting minutes, (1922-1956), annual meeting minutes (1956-1995, missing 1971-1973, 1975-1981, and 1985-1986), and the board of directors minutes (1971, 1981-1995, missing 1982, 1984, and 1986) record the quarterly meetings of the executive board and the annual meetings of the association. The alumnae newsletters (1952-1997) are quarterly publications that inform alumnae members of upcoming and past alumnae events. The newsletters also list the activities of alumnae members, Psi Gamma Sorority events, meeting minutes, budget reports, and other issues that might be of interest to alumnae members. The constitution (1924-1993), which was recently amended in 1993, documents the association's mission statement and rules for organization. Finally, the association regularly provides detailed information about members' addresses and phone numbers in the membership lists (1922-1983) and officer lists (1988-1995).

Series 3 consists of Fausold's records during his time as Vice President and President of the Faculty Association of the State University of New York (FASUNY). FASUNY's purpose was to promote unity within the SUNY System faculty. The organization was concerned with not only improving the general welfare of SUNY faculty, but with improving education opportunities in the State of New York as well. FASUNY informed members of its efforts through its newsletter. This series contains copies of the Association's newsletters from 1957-1968 as well as mailing lists. FASUNY hosted a biennial conference where members of the Association met to discuss problems of public higher education and conduct Association related business. This series also includes FASUNY meeting minutes, membership information and Fausold's 1960s professional correspondence. Fausold also kept records of the SUNY budget, payroll, and salary reports.

This series contains drafts of speeches and lectures presented by Rienow at various public functions as well as notes taken on the topic of the speech and occasionally clippings regarding the speech. There is also occasional correspondence between Rienow and the person or group for whom he is presenting. The majority of these speeches relate to Rienow's environmental interests. Topics include pollution, land use and nuclear fallout. A few speeches are on topics in political science and teaching, such as those presented to the Symposium on Citizenship Education.
