The Subject Files series is an accumulation of material representing Studer's two primary interests: folklore and progressive education. Materials include notes, reprints, typescripts, news clippings, bound newspapers, journals, and writings of others. Of particular interest is a master's thesis by Marilyn Kimball entitled George Edwards: Catskill Folksinger. There is a typescript copy of "Merry Ditties: A Collection of Delectable Songs" from various traditional sources and a reprint of "Catskill Lockup Songs," both by Norman Cazden. Also located in this series is a copy of Herbert Haufrecht's "Woodland Serenade." There are three bound volumes of The New Student, a student run newspaper published and printed out of New York City during the 1920s and edited by Studer prior to his entering Columbia University.

This series contains subject files about various environmental, historical, and preservation topics affecting the Saratoga Springs region. These files were collected by Barbara Glaser in a separate filing cabinet and have a slightly broader range of subjects than the files in the Programs and Issues series. Nevertheless, there is a great deal of overlap and most of the topics can be found in both series, with this series mainly consisting of News Clippings and the Programs and Issues series having a more diverse assortment of materials. There may well have been some intermingling between the contents of these filing cabinets, as some of the files in this series, particularly those from The Next Steps & Beyond program, would seem to fit better in the Programs and Issues series.

This series consists of draft articles, background research materials, memos, notes, magazine and newspaper clippings on a number of subjects that William Kennedy explored and reported upon, especially for his Pulitzer Prize nominated series of features for the Albany Times-Union during the mid-1960s. Those articles included investigations into Albany slums, poverty, housing integration, and racial inequalities. While the initial copy appeared in the 1960s, the files in this series document Kennedy's continued interest and active research of the same topics in subsequent decades. Kennedy used the materials on slums as background for O Albany!. Please note the overall dates for the series are not inclusive.
