Chiefly 19th-century New York and New England local history manuscripts and business records, primarily for craftsmen and railroads; papers of children's book writer and illustrator Marcia J. Brown and two original manuscripts by Maud and Miska Petersham; papers of Pulitzer Prize-winning author William Kennedy; papers of Anthony Ashley Cooper, the 19th century social reformer; and papers of Benito Perez Galdos, Gonzalo Torrente Ballester, Evengi Zamyatin, and other writers.

This series includes handwritten notes, typed pages, proofs and printed pages for lectures and writings. Material related to specific Caldecott Award winners (Cinderella, Once a Mouse, Shadow) as well as material related to the Regina Medal and the Laura Ingalls Wilder award are included, along with lecture notes and cards. Special note should be taken of the art work grouped with the material used in chalk talks, especially the dummies created for Cinderella, Dick Whittington, Henry's Island (Henry Fisherman), Once a Mouse, Puss in Boots, Skipper John's Cook, and Stone Soup.

This series consists of works written by Alexander Semmler for solo piano and organ. Included in this series is a photocopied clipping of a newspaper review of a concert led by Semmler and featuring one of his works. It is housed with the item to which it was originally attached. All items are in English, with musical notations in Italian.

William Kennedy Papers, 1926-2003 41.2 cubic ft.
The William Kennedy Papers document nearly a half century of research, writing, and publishing efforts of the internationally recognized, Pulitzer Prize winning author, playwright, essayist, journalist, script writer, professor, and champion of the arts. The collection consists of records related to all of Kennedy's fiction and nonfiction books through 2002, including his "Albany Cycle" of novels, film scripts, essays, and newspaper articles from the Albany <em>Times-Union</em> . In addition, there is correspondence with other significant authors of American literature, biographical materials, and records documenting a trip to Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland with President Bill Clinton.

Vocal and Choral Music, 1914-1968, Undated 0.82 cubic ft.
This series consists of the vocal and choral works written by Alexander Semmler under his own name. The arrangement of this series is alphabetical except in the case of those works to which Semmler assigned opus numbers; they are arranged under 'O' in numerical order. Please note that the items in Oversized Folder 1 are all in German. All other items are in English, except for some song lyrics in Spanish. Where there is no notation to the contrary, both words and music are presumed to be by Semmler. In all other cases, the lyricist's name is listed first.
Box 3 (2-writing and art), Folder 86
William Kennedy continued his writings about the Phelan family with Very Old Bones, his next installment in the "Albany Cycle" of novels published in 1992. This book is set in the 1950s in the city and narrated by Orson Purcell, the out-of-wedlock son of Peter Phelan. The majority of the series consists of manuscript drafts and edited copy, although there are a small number of files containing correspondence, publicity materials, articles and reviews, and excerpts of the novel published in magazines.
