Background
- Scope and Content:
This collection contains twelve audio interviews, readings, and reminiscences of Hertha Pauli, an Austrian emigre who wrote popular history and children's literature, including interviews about emigre writers Guido Zernatto (1903-1943) and Ödön von Horváth (1901-1938).
- Biographical / Historical:
Hertha Pauli (1909-1973) was an Austrian emigre who wrote popular history and children's literature. Born in Vienna, she studied at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in that city and also worked as an actress in Germany until 1933. She then returned to Vienna and became a literary agent until 1938 when she relocated to Paris. With the assistance of the International Rescue Committee, she came to Hollywood in 1941 and worked briefly as a screenwriter there. She was survived by her husband E. B. Ashton.

- All items in this collection were transferred to the University Libraries, M.E. Grenander Department of Special Collections and Archives by E.B. Ashton in the late 1970s.
