This collection documents the seventeen-year period (1974-1991) concerning the Florida capital punishment case of Alvin Ford. The collection primarily contains the court records and research material of Ford's attorney, Laurin A. Wollan, Jr., as well as other members of the Ford defense team who began work on the case in 1981. The legal records include official court proceedings from the initial trial in 1974, appeals, attempts at clemency, and several cases by Ford against the Florida Department of Corrections. Other legal records include psychological reports, background reports, biographies of Ford, as well as his prison and medical records.

This series contains legal records that are mostly official court proceedings of the Alvin Ford cases covering a period of seventeen years. These cases include State of Florida v. Ford: 1974, which covers the original trial court proceedings. Later cases that bear the same style relate to later attempts of Ford on a motion for post conviction relief and stay of execution in 1981 and a second attempt in 1987. Ford v. State of Florida:1975-1988, Ford v. Strickland et al.: 1981-1984, Ford v. Wainwright: 1981-1988, and Ford v. Dugger: 1986-1991 all represent the trial cases Ford's attorneys filed against a succession of superintendents of the Florida State Prison and secretaries of the Department of Corrections. Other proceedings include multiple trials, pleas, motions, hearings, testimonies, and appeals. Other legal records are background studies on Ford that include detailed psychiatric evaluations, medical and prison records, case summaries, and undated notes by Laurin Wollan.

The Hudson Valley Area Joint Board was formed in 1957 through the merger of the Columbia County and Mid-Hudson Valley Joint Boards. At that point, the two joint boards were affiliated of the Textile Workers Union of America (TWUA), which merged with the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America (ACWA) in 1976 to form the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union (ACTWU). The collection documents the organization, administration, and activities of the Hudson Valley Area Joint Board and its predecessor organizations.

The second sub-series contains records relating to the Textile Workers Union of America (TWUA), also known as the Amalgamated Clothing and Textiles Workers Union (ACTWU). The third sub-series cotnains local chapter files and the fourth sub-series is contains records associated with the union councils of the AFL-CIO.

This sub-series contains the subject files of the Hudson Valley Area Joint Board. Included in the subject files are records relating to the organization of the Board, arbitration documents, contracts, correspondence, meeting minutes, and bylaws and constitutions. This series also contains records relating to the Berkshire Joint Board, which the Hudson Valley Area Joint Board oversaw until it left in 1969 to join the Conneticut Joint Board. This series also contains buttons that were worn by the union members to show political support.

The Albany Branch of the AAUW Executive Board (or Board of Directors) is made up of elected officers including the president, two vice presidents, two secretaries, treasurer, and two directors. The purpose of the Executive Board is to carry on the business and administer to the affairs of the branch, establish special task forces and committees and submit the annual budget to the branch. The Minutes of The Executive Board generally run from 1938-1965 and from 1984-1991, and contain the following gaps: 1939, 1941-1947, 1957-1959 and 1966-1983.

The General Meetings of the Albany Branch of the AAUW meet monthly and are open to the public. The meetings comprise the major social outlet of the branch serving to attract new members. The General Meetings are generally held at public meeting places at which the officers relay branch news and proposed activities to the members. Guest speakers are often invited to share their knowledge with the branch community at the General Meetings. Guest lecturers are typically established professionals from the Albany community. Speech topics tend to reflect current social issues and their impact on women and society. The minutes contain the following gaps: 1965-1985, and 1987. The available documentation spanning the years from 1986-1991, are very sparse, however.

This series contains the files of past presidents of the Captital District Chapter of ASPA. At least three of these files--those of George W. Chesbro, Robert P. Kerker and Charlotte O. Gray--appear to have been donated by the presidents themselves. The rest of these files were collected from people other than the president who created the records, but these do seem to be files kept by those presidents. Most of these files are arranged as day files: items within files are in rough chronological order, and contain incoming and outgoing correspondence, meeting minutes, newsletters, announcements, and some notes. For the most part, files under one name contain the records of one president's term, but a few of these files (notably, those for Robert J. Donahue) contain records that overlap with the terms of other presidents and are filed in the presidents' files for the sake of convenience.

Dorothy (nee Langley) Sweeney graduated from St. Mary's Institute in Amsterdam, New York in 1941. After graduation, Sweeney accepted an office position at General Electric in Schenectady. In her off hours she spent time at WGY, GE's AM radio station, where her brother Edward Langley acted and wrote for the station's dramatic productions. She later worked at WGY and in radio in New York City. Sweeney provided sound effects for several programs and her scripts from this work form the bulk of this collection.

The Illinois Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty (ICADP) formed in 1976 as the Illinois Coalition Against the Death Penalty by Mary Alice Rankin and other activist groups and organizations to try to prevent passage of capital punishment legislation in Illinois. After the state adopted the death penalty in 1977, ICADP expanded its grassroots legislative, education, and communication activities to try to inform the public about flaws and injustices in the Illinois capital punishment system and promote humane alternatives to the death penalty.
