The Subject Files contain annual reports (1967, 1974-1978, 1982-1984, 1985, 1987-1988), annual dinner program (1975, 1978, 1982), general correspondence (1981-1987), and the annual meeting minutes (1970, 1975, 1980-1984). They were maintained as a record of the daily operations of the Urban League of Northeastern New York and provides an overview of the various programs with which the organization was involved. The documentation for this series is most complete in the years 1984-1987. Information recorded during the 1970s can also be found intermittently within the series. Missing from the series is a charter or any other material relating to the origins of the Albany Urban League. Also incomplete are records in the form of annual reports.

This series of correspondence dates predominately from the years 1936-1943 and contains approximately 2345 items of correspondence, consisting of letters to Kotschnig, carbons of many of his own letters, as well as third party letters which were sent to him. The correspondence documents the history of the International Student Service in the United States, its connection to the European Student Relief Fund, and its subsequent evolution into the World Student Service and the World Student Service Fund. The most substantial correspondent is Alfred E. Cohn (212 items), but the collection also includes correspondence with many of the individuals involved with these organizations: Edward Bradby, Margaret J. Brown, Joseph Cadden, André de Blonay, Clyde Eagleton, Roland A. Elliott, William G. Fletcher, Kenneth Holland, Ruth Hubbard, Alvin S. Johnson, Robert E. Lane, Joseph P. The collection consists of records related to all of Kennedy's fiction and nonfiction books through 2002, including his "Albany Cycle" of novels, film scripts, essays, and newspaper articles from the Albany <em>Times-Union</em>. In addition, there is correspondence with other significant authors of American literature, biographical materials, and records documenting a trip to Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland with President Bill Clinton.

This series documents the transition of Ironweed from the 1983 award-winning novel to film in 1987. Like the book, the movie focuses on the character of Francis Phelan and his return to Albany during the Depression. William Kennedy wrote the script for the film which was directed by Hector Babenco and starred Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep. It was filmed on location in Albany and the surrounding areas. The materials include many draft and edited scripts, publicity materials, information about casting and locations, call sheets, correspondence, reviews, and two paperback copies of the novel with notes used for script writing. Note the overall dates for the series are not inclusive.
